Tools Used to Untangle Vehicles
in front of Tops Markets

St. Patrick's Day - Friday, March 17, 2000 - Approx. 7:30pm

Highland Hose Volunteers responded to a motor vehicle accident in front of Tops Markets on Erie Rd. (Rte. 5) in Derby that was reported as a pick-up truck collided with a car.  Highland responded with their ALS ambulance, heavy rescue and an engine.

Evans Center fire fighters were dispatched for their ALS ambulance and their heavy rescue.  Both Highland and Evans Center utilized their hydraulic rescue tools to extricate a passenger in the back seat of the auto. The car had been struck by a pick-up truck with a snowplow attached, pinning the rear seat passenger.

Both tools were used to remove the roof of the vehicle, allowing access to and removal of the patient.  Highland and Evans Center's ambulances transported the injured parties to local hospitals.
