Evans Center Runs Roof Rescue

Mid-Town - May 24, 2001 – An 85 year-old woman falls and injures her hip – not necessarily an unusual occurrence. However, this 85 year-old woman was cleaning gutters from the roof of her two-story home.

Evans Center volunteers were dispatched to this call at a residence on Old Lake Shore Road in the Purvis Landing area of the Town of Evans. Assisted by the Evans crew from Rural/Metro Paramedics, our vols used a 24 ft. extension ladder and a roof ladder to reach, treat and remove the woman from her roof.

Her hip and lower extremities stabilized, she was packaged with full spinal immobilization, placed in a stokes basket and lowered down the ladders and off the roof. Rural/Metro #521 treated and transported her to a local hospital for evaluation.

Evans Center Engine 1 and Rescue 7 responded under the direction of Asst. Chief Bruce Green Jr. Evans Center was assisted at the scene by the Town of Evans Police Department and the Angola Fire Control Dispatch Center.
