MidTown - June 14, 2002 --- This year's golf outing was moved to the
Eden Valley Golf Course in hopes that the participants could improve their
scores.
Not many improved their score but they sure got their money's worth - taking
every available swing at the ball.
Scoring in with a total of 138 shots for 18
holes was Evans Center Rookie Fireman Joel Raisor. Apparently, firefighting
isn't the only thing he's a rookie at.
For his triple digit score - Joel received the coveted one-size-fits-all Green
Evans Center Golf Outing Masters Jacket and the annual SUGGIT trophy valued at well
over $6.00. Masterfully hand-crafted by Doug Milks, the trophy featured
beer cans from the tournament's unofficial sponsors: Michelob and
Leinenkugel. First runner-up was Art Popiol with a 137. Art wore the
Green Masters Jacket last year.
Low score went to Jay Carbeck for the second year in a row with an 87. Jay
was once again warned that if he keeps embarrassing the rest of the golfers, he
won't be invited back next year. Actually, a special thanks goes to Jay from
Grandview Associates for their continued generous support of Evans Center's
training program.
The "Biggest Liar Award" went to Tim Szczepaniak with a
self-proclaimed score of 88. He's either really bad at math - or telling the
truth - or just really bad at both.
Despite occasional drizzling rain and some fog to make things interesting,
all of the golfers had a great time and returned to Evans Center's assembly hall
for a fine meal of Lakeside Market Italian Sausage and refreshments served by
Evans Center's Lynne Potoczak and Bruce Green Sr.
Great thanks go to all of the golfers, hole sponsors and donators of
door prizes. Over $1,200 was raised to support continuing improvements
at Evans Center's HOT Zone Training Center.
We look forward to another successful event next year. Stay tuned to
the Golf Outing page for dates and details.
