MidTown - July 2, 2002 --- Evans Center's monthly membership meeting was interrupted by a visit from XXXXX and his family. XXXX was involved in a serious accident when the truck he was driving flew through the air and struck a power pole in front of the Town of Evans Municipal Center on May 11, 2002.

XXXX was pinned in the vehicle which was on its side against the energized power pole. Extrication was difficult and dangerous and took over two hours to complete.

He and his family stopped by Evans Center's Erie Road Station to meet and thank the people that saved his life and limbs. Firefighters gave him a copy of the spring edition of The Fire Fighter Newspaper which featured an article on the crash. He read the article with amazement of the details, many of which he was unaware of.

XXXX suffered [describe wounds] in the crash. After several weeks of rehabilitation, he is still bound to a wheelchair and wears a cast on his right leg. Firefighters gave the family a tour of their station and showed XXXX the tools used to disentangle him from the wreckage, describing the rescue effort in their own words.

The firefighters were pleased with the life-saving outcome and the fact that he and his family took the time to visit and thank them, an all-too-rare occurrence in their line of work.
