Driver Makes Narrow EscapeMidTown - August , 2002 --- An auto accident around 2:15am this morning left a vehicle destroyed but the driver relatively unscathed. The vehicle was headed westbound on Route 5 in the Town of Evans near New Era Cap Company when the driver apparently fell asleep. The car drifted off the eastbound shoulder and into the ditch, first skimming a power pole and then striking a driveway culvert. When the car side-swiped the power pole, it tore the outer skin of driver's side right off the car. The car was considered totaled in the accident and came to rest in the driveway it struck. Evans Center firefighters responded with Engines 1 & 3 to assist the Rural/Metro Paramedic Crew with packaging the patient and cleaning up the debris. The young driver escaped with a lacerated forehead, a broken nose and sprained ankle, and was treated and released from the Erie County Medical Center later that morning. The minor nature of the injuries were attributed to the driver being asleep at the time of the crash and the use of the safety seat belt. Evans Center was assisted at the scene by the Angola Fire Control Dispatch Center, Town of Evans Police, Village of Angola Police, Pinto's Collision and Rural/Metro Paramedics. |
