Four Companies
Dispatched to Car Fire
MidTown - September 24, 2002 --- Passing motorists on the New York
State Thruway are sometimes confused as to their whereabouts when they report an
emergency, often resulting in multiple agencies being dispatched to the same
call.
Thus was the case around 10pm on Tuesday evening when a passerby
reported a car fire near the Silver Creek interchange. A four door sedan was
found fully involved in fire when Evans Center Chief Dennis Allen arrived at
milepost 453.6 westbound in Evans Center's Response District. Irving and Silver Creek fire units were just arriving
at the same time.
Evans Center Engine 1 had just pulled into the Eden Fire Department's station
when the alarm sounded for the car fire. Eden Engine 1 responded with Evans
Center to the Thruway call.
Eden-Evans Center firefighters arrived and assisted Irving who was already
applying foam from their onboard tank to the well involved fire.
The crews worked together to put the fire out and overhaul the vehicle.
Evans Center was assisted at the scene by Angola Fire Control, Hamburg Fire
Control, the New York State Police and Pinto's Towing.
