Firefighters Honored

MidTown - January 25, 2003 --- The Seventieth Annual Installation
Banquet of the Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company featured special guests and
awards.
Master of Ceremonies and Installing Officer for the Fire Chief, Line Officers
and EMS Officers was Jay Mazurkiewicz, Fire Protection Specialist with the New
York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control.
Immediately following the welcome and introduction of guests by incoming
President Geordie Sinclair, Chief Dennis Allen announced the recipient of the
Firefighter of the Year Award as Lt. Michael Relosky. Chief Allen honored Relosky for
his positive attitude, service, dedication to training and contributions to the
fire department. Relosky was then escorted to his new seat at the head table by
former award recipients.
Rev. Donald A. Loos, Pastor of St. John's Evangelical Church and Fire
Department Chaplain, provided the invocation and benedictions for the evening.
Following dinner, all of the officers were installed. Carol Franey, Evans Town
Clerk, installed the Ladies Auxiliary and Fire Police Officers while Clint
Soemann, past chief and president of the department and past president of the
New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, directed the oath of office for the
executive officers.
Robert J. Corsi Jr. accepted the EMT of the Year Award from newly elected EMS
Captain Jay Hontz. Bob was commended for his 40 years of active service to the
fire company and the EMS squad.
Top Responders of the Year were Bruce Green Jr. & Sr., Ken Hontz, Charlie
Klepfer III and Tiger Schmittendorf.
The Ladies Auxiliary presented Fire Police Captain Vince O'Hare with a
donation check of $2,400 towards equipment purchases and presented a $1,600
check to Chief Allen and President Sinclair towards the purchase of new
computers.
Special thanks go to Chicks Catering for a delicious banquet meal and to Bob
Trask for providing the sound system and entertainment for the evening.
