MidTown - February 22, 2003 --- Evans Center firefighters were dispatched to standby at Highland's fire station around 11:20 this morning as Highland and North Evans Firefighters were at a garage fire on Delameter Road in Highland's response area.

They had been dispatched to a reported 'working' fire in a barn shaped detached garage that was about 50 ft. away from the residence. The garage suffered heavy heat and flame damage in the fire.

The crew from Evans Center Engine 1 was called to the scene about 45 minutes into the incident to assist their fellow firefighters in overhauling the remains of the structure.

According to Evans Center Chief Dennis Allen, the integrity of the structure's roof support system was severely compromised and the entire building had to be demolished the day after the fire.
