MidTown - May 5, 2003 --- A car traveling on Delameter Road towards Eden-Evans Center Road left the roadway and rolled over several times around 10:30pm this evening. The driver apparently failed to negotiate the curve which has been the scene of several similar accidents near Church Road. However, when emergency crews arrived, the driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found. The car had sustained heavy damage and landed on an access road that runs parallel to the CSX railroad tracks just to the east of the roadway. A search of a wooded area between the access road and the railroad yielded the victim. Using hand lights, the middle-aged man was found laying face-up on a thicket of small brush by Evans Center Special Ops Captain Patrick Murphy Sr. EMT-I Mike Kauzala initiated care until Rural/Metro Paramedics could make their way through the brush to the patient. A Mercy Flight Medical Helicopter was dispatched as other Evans Center Firefighters used a chain saw to cut a quick pathway out of the woods. The patient was packaged and transported by ambulance to a landing zone that had been secured at the Lake Shore Senior High School by Angola Firefighters. He was then transported by helicopter to the Erie County Medical Center. It is not clear as to whether the driver was ejected from the vehicle into the woods, or if he arrived there under his own power. In addition to the other agencies listed, Evans Center was assisted at the scene by Town of Evans Police, Angola Fire Control Dispatch Center and Highland Hose Firefighters.
