MidTown - November 11, 2003 --- Eight Evans Center Firefighters tried out their two new Stihl 440 chain saws during a ventilation drill in the fire company's HOT Zone training center.

The saws were purchased as part of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's Wildland Firefighting Matching Grant Program. The saws were retrofitted with heavy duty 20" bars, carbide tip blades and a depth gauge to allow double-duty as roof ventilation saws.

Chief Dennis Allen, Capt. Tiger Schmittendorf, Lt. Mike Relosky and Firefighters Al Chastain, Bruce Green Jr., Bruce Green Sr., Kevin Snyder, Harry Watkins and Bob Zamrok participated in the three-hour training session.

Special thanks go to Gugino Farm Equipment in Brant for offering us a major discount on the cost of the saws, and to Firefighter Bob Zamrok for completing the retrofit of the saws.
