Garage fire poses challenges

MidTown – Town of Evans NY – March 19, 2004 --- Evans Center and Lake Erie Beach firefighters were alerted around 5:15pm Friday night for a reported barn fire on Johnson Avenue in Evans Center's district.

First arriving fire units found an approximately 15x30 garage well involved in fire with a possible residential exposure problem on the number 2 side of the garage. Acetylene tanks and other hazards were reported to be in the garage.

Lake Erie Beach Chief Bill Hamm requested a tanker from Brant and additional support from the Village of Angola Fire Department. Fireground operations were supervised by Hamm and Evans Center Sr. Lt. Pat Murphy and Sr. Firefighter Bob Corsi.

The structure was a total loss and was demolished by Friday night. No firefighters or civilians were injured and the adjacent home was not damaged.

Evans Center was assisted at the scene by the Angola, Brant and Lake Erie Beach Fire Companies, Town of Evans Police Department, Angola Fire Control Dispatch Center and Rural/Metro Paramedics.
