Cars Collide on Rte. 5Town of Evans NY – MidTown – July 3, 2004 --- Evans Center Assistant Fire Chief Tim Szczepaniak was traveling east on Rte. 5 in the Town of Evans around noon today when he looked in his rearview mirror and saw that two cars had just collided behind him. He radioed the accident information to the Angola Fire Control Dispatch Center. The accident occurred on Rte. 5 just east of Evans Center's Erie Road Fire Station#1, sending three people to the hospital. The car in the photo below apparently collided with the rear of a Jeep Cherokee. Police and fire crews shut down the westbound lane of the state highway and split the eastbound lanes into two. Evans Center Firefighters provided EMS support, traffic control and cleaned up a fluid leak and debris in the roadway under the command of Chief Bruce Green Jr. Two people were transported to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital by Evans Center and one patient was transported to Lake Shore Hospital by Rural Metro ambulance. None of the patients appeared to have life threatening injuries. Two other persons involved in the accident declined medical treatment or transportation to the hospital.
