Keeps Evans Center Busy

Town of Evans NY – MidTown – November 6, 2004 ---

Quick work by Evans Center Volunteer Firefighters kept a mobile home fire contained to the furnace on Karen Drive in Triton Valley Estates on October 21.

Reported as a structure fire, Chief Bruce Green had smoke banking down inside the trailer when he arrived. He took the role of operations chief and declared a working fire to Assistant Chief Tiger Schmittendorf who had assumed command of the incident.

Evans Center Engines 1 and 3, and Rescue 7 responded along with an engine, heavy rescue and ambulance from the Highland Hose Fire Company. A hose line was stretched to the front door of the home.

Further investigation found that the source of the smoke was a fire in the furnace. A thorough observation with both Highland and Evans Center's thermal imager confirmed that there was no fire extension into the structure. Crews used a water can to extinguish any hot spots and ventilated the home. They returned to service shortly thereafter.

A house fire on Church Road on November 2 is under investigation by Town of Evans Police Detectives and Fire Investigators from the Erie County Sheriffs Department. Evans Center was dispatched around 5pm to a reported structure fire. Highland Hose Fire Company was dispatched as automatic mutual aid.

The fires inside the structure appeared to be out, although there was still smoke inside when the fire was discovered by visitors to the home. Response was held to Evans Center Engine 1 on scene with Engine 3 and Highland Engine 1 standing by at Evans Center's Erie Road Fire Station.

In between two EMS calls in the early morning hours of November 6, Evans Center's FAST team was requested to respond to a structure fire on Husson Drive in the Lake View Fire District as part of an automatic second alarm assignment.

The fire apparently started on the outside of the garage and extended into the garage wall. Lake View firefighters extinguished the fire, overhauled the wall and used their thermal imager to confirm that there was no fire extension into the remainder of the structure. The fire occurred around 12:30am.
