Evans Center Announces FIRECorps Partnership

Town of Evans NY - MidTown - February 1, 2005 --- The Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to announce that it has partnered with FIRECorps, a nationwide outreach program created to support fire departments across the country by leveraging community volunteer efforts to handle non-emergency activities.

As a Program Partner of President George W. Bush's grass-roots initiative Citizen Corps, Fire Corps will work through local Citizen Corps Councils across the country to offer citizens education, training, and volunteer opportunities. Fire Corps is a partnership between the International Association of Fire Chiefs' Volunteer Combination Officers Section (VCOS), the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), and the Department of Homeland Security's US Fire Administration and Office of State and Local Government Preparedness and Coordination.

Evans Center registered its Associate Membership program at the FIRECorps web site. Evans Center has utilized 'corporate' or 'associate' members for almost 15 years with great success.

“Associate Members perform non-emergency duties and are an integral part of our organization. They actively serve on a committee and/or hold an elected administrative office at all times,” said Geordie Sinclair, fire department president.

Evans Center offers opportunities for Associate Members to perform administrative, bookkeeping, chaplain, web development, youth leadership, fundraising, grant writing, data entry, life safety education, special projects, facility and vehicle maintenance functions.

In addition to associate members, Evans Center has an active ladies auxiliary that provides on-scene rehab support at emergency incidents and performs large-scale fund-raising events to benefit the fire department and its members. The ladies auxiliary has been in existence almost as long as the fire company, which was incorporated in 1933. A Firefighter Explorer Post is available for young adults age 14-21.

Evans Center welcomes new FIRECorps members as part of their support team. “There's plenty to do on, and behind the scenes and we offer opportunities for everyone to contribute,” added Chief Bruce Green Jr.
